Wayne Gersoff, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Wayne Gersoff recognized his desire to enter a career in medicine, and, in particular, surgery, at an early stage in his education. Orthopedic surgery provided the unique blend of science, biomechanics, and technical skills as a mechanism to help people. This, coupled with his life-long participation in and love of sports, drew him to a career in orthopedic sports medicine. Following his academic years at Yale University and the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Gersoff was recruited to the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1987 to develop and direct a program in sports medicine, as well as serve as team physician for the University of Colorado athletic teams. During his career, he has continued to be actively involved in sports medicine and has served as team physician for the Colorado Rockies baseball team, the Denver Grizzlies hockey team, the U.S. Ski Jumping team, US Soccer Team and the Denver Public Schools. He presently serves as team physician for the Colorado Rapids professional soccer team and has been the President of the Professional Soccer Physicians’ Society for 10 years.

Dr. Gersoff is also recognized as a leader both on a national and international level for his experience in meniscal allograft transplantation, articular cartilage restoration, and the biologic restoration of the knee joint. He has lectured on these topics at major medical meetings in the USA and abroad. In addition he has edited and contributed to two textbooks : Cartilage Surgery – An Operative Manual and Mensical Transplantation : A Comprehensive Review; as well as multiple journal publications.
